Projects
Our lab group is involved in a wide variety of projects. Listed below are the four largest initiatives, each of which maintains a separate website. The Future of Marine Animal Populations
The Future of Marine Animal Populations is an
international network to develop statistical models that can be used by the Census of Marine Life to design field sampling
programs, synthesize data, make predictions, and further our understanding of
the limits of knowledge. www.fmap.ca
The PEW Global Shark Assessment
The PEW Global Shark Assessment is a new initiative to conduct regional assessments of shark populations worldwide. Specifically, the project will (1) estimate the pre-exploitation population sizes, (2) estimate current population parameters, and (3) predict the outcome of current management practices and recommend the practices necessary to ensure shark survival. www.globalshark.ca
Stock Recruitment Database
This site consists of maps, plots, and numerical
data relating to over 600 fish populations (over 100 species) from all over
the world. www.mathstat.dal.ca/~myers/welcome.html
Nova Scotia Leatherback Turtle Working Group
The Myers lab monitors the distribution, movement, and
population dynamics of leatherback turtles as part of the Nova Scotia
Leatherback Turtle Working Group. This project is a collaborative marine
turtle research and conservation initiative involving fishermen and
university-affiliated biologists in Atlantic Canada. www.seaturtle.ca
