Welcome to the Myers Lab! We are part of the Department of Biology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Dr. Ransom A. Myers (RAM) is the head of our group. He is the first Killam Chair of Ocean Studies at Dalhousie University. RAM has a Ph.D. in Biology, an M.Sc. in Mathematics, and an undergraduate degree in Physics. He has over 100 peer reviewed scientific publications and is an influential force in the effort to prevent overfishing and extinction in the oceans.

Our lab is primarily concerned with understanding the changes in marine biodiversity since the advent of industrial fishing. The ocean is a difficult environment to study and much of our work involves the development of statistical methods that are appropriate for such a complex and poorly sampled system. Often, the information we use has already been collected and analyzed, but we are able to achieve new insights by looking at it in new ways. For example, in the Global Shark Assessment project (globalshark.ca), we are compiling datasets that range in age from recent to over 50 years old in order to conduct meta-analyses that will help us track changes in shark populations worldwide.

Our website contains a variety of resources and information about past, current and future research projects originating from RAM's lab. Use the navigation menu on the left to get around the site, or consult the site map.
