My main research area is statistical modelling of ecological processes. Two topics that I am particularly interested in are animal movement and the dynamics, management and conservation of animal populations. My current focus is on the incorporation of environmental variables (e.g., water currents, temperature) into state-space models of animal movement, part of the Future of Marine Animal Populations (FMAP) project of the international Census of Marine Life. I am also involved in a collaboration between the FMAP and Tagging of Pacific Predators (TOPP) projects where we have used state-space models to describe the distribution and movements of marine predators in the Pacific Ocean.
